SMIYL helps CIE AS & A Level Mathematics (9709) students go from struggling to excelling through clear, exam-focused teaching. Our content is built around real past-paper explanations, structured thinking, and efficient learning.
We produce long-form educational videos for YouTube and some short-form content on YouTube and Instagram.
Role Overview
We’re looking for a maths-aware video editor to clean up and structure recorded lesson videos.
This role is beginner-friendly from a technical editing perspective, but requires:
- understanding of mathematical explanations
- good judgement about what to cut vs what to keep
- attention to clarity and flow
You’ll mainly be:
- producing clean, understandable lesson videos
- removing mistakes, repetition, and pauses
- trimming explanations so they remain correct and easy to follow
Key Responsibilities
- Cut out mistakes, long pauses, and irrelevant chatter
- Keep explanations logically correct and complete
- Ensure the final video makes sense to a student watching it
- Deliver clean, distraction-free lesson videos
- Apply simple edits only (cuts, trims, basic text where needed)
Video Formats
Below are the video formats you will generally be expected to edit.
- Past paper solution videos
- Talking head videos
- Repurposed Shorts
- Other Short Form
Note: This role does not require advanced effects, animations, or complex transitions.
Skills & Qualifications
Required
- Basic video editing ability
- Familiarity with CIE A Level Mathematics
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to follow clear editing instructions
Nice to have (not required)
- Previous experience editing educational content
- Experience with YouTube-style videos
Technical Requirements
To ensure reliable turnaround times and smooth collaboration, editors must have:
- A reliable high-speed internet connection suitable for downloading and uploading large video files
- A capable laptop or desktop that can comfortably handle long-form video editing
- Sufficient local storage for handling large raw video files
- A stable working setup that allows consistent delivery
Applicants who do not meet these requirements will unfortunately not be considered.
Compensation
- Long-form videos (Talking Head, Past Paper Walkthrough): $10 per raw video hour
- Repurposed shorts (cutting up preexisting content): $2 per video
- Other short-form videos (new recordings, adding captions): $3 per video
Payment is per raw video hour or per short, as described. Exact monthly workload may vary. Rates are starting rates and can increase based on consistency, reliability, and quality of work.
