SMIYL Refund & Cancellation Policy
Last updated: 12 October 2026
This Refund & Cancellation Policy applies to tutoring, group programmes, exam sprints, digital resources and other educational services provided by SMIYL.
By purchasing a SMIYL product or service, you acknowledge that you have read and agreed to this policy, subject always to any rights you may have under applicable consumer law.
1. Group programmes, cohorts and exam sprints
SMIYL group programmes and exam sprints have limited places and may include live teaching, recordings, digital resources, group access, support and other programme materials.
Once a programme has commenced, or a student has been granted access to programme materials, recordings or other digital resources, programme fees are generally non-refundable, except where a refund is required by applicable law or where SMIYL is unable to provide the purchased service.
A student is not ordinarily entitled to a refund because they:
- change their mind after the programme has begun;
- are unable to attend one or more scheduled classes;
- choose not to participate in or complete the programme;
- fail to use the materials, recordings or support provided;
- experience a personal scheduling conflict; or
- no longer wish to continue with the programme.
Where a cancellation request is made before the programme begins, SMIYL will consider the request taking into account the circumstances of the cancellation, the amount of notice provided, whether programme access or materials have already been provided, costs already incurred and SMIYL’s reasonable ability to fill the reserved place.
A reasonable cancellation charge may apply where permitted by law.
2. Payment plans
Where SMIYL permits a programme fee to be paid in instalments, the payment plan is a method of paying for the programme and should not automatically be understood as a month-to-month membership.
Cancellation of participation does not automatically entitle the student to a refund of amounts already paid.
Any request to cancel a programme being paid by instalments will be assessed in accordance with this policy, the stage of programme delivery and applicable law.
3. Missed group classes
Students are responsible for attending scheduled live sessions.
No refund or partial refund will ordinarily be provided for a class missed by a student.
Where recordings are included as part of the programme, students may use the available recording to catch up. Availability of a recording does not change the student’s responsibility for attending or completing programme activities.
4. One-to-one tutoring
For individually scheduled tutoring sessions:
- A lesson cancelled at least 24 hours before the scheduled start time may normally be rescheduled without charge.
- A lesson cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice may be charged in full or treated as used, except where SMIYL agrees otherwise due to exceptional circumstances.
- Failure to attend a scheduled lesson without notice may result in the lesson being charged in full.
- If SMIYL or the assigned tutor cancels a lesson, the student will be offered a rescheduled lesson, account credit or refund for the affected lesson, as appropriate.
Where lessons have been purchased as a package, requests relating to unused lessons will be considered according to the circumstances and applicable law.
5. Digital products and resources
Digital products may include PDFs, worksheets, recorded lessons, revision materials, course resources and other downloadable or electronically accessible content.
Once digital content has been supplied, downloaded or accessed, purchases are generally non-refundable, except where required by applicable law or where the product supplied is materially different from what was purchased or cannot be accessed because of an issue attributable to SMIYL.
6. Cancellation or changes by SMIYL
If SMIYL cancels a programme before it begins and does not provide a suitable alternative, affected customers will receive a refund of the relevant amount paid.
If SMIYL is unable to provide a material portion of a programme after it has commenced, SMIYL may, depending on the circumstances:
- reschedule the affected service;
- provide an appropriate alternative;
- issue account credit; or
- provide a refund relating to the portion of the service that SMIYL is unable to deliver.
Minor timetable adjustments, reasonable changes to instructors, or changes to the order in which programme content is delivered do not ordinarily constitute cancellation of the programme.
7. Refund requests
Refund and cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to:
Email: smiyl@gcealevelmaths9709.com
Please include:
- the student’s name;
- the email address used for the purchase;
- the programme or service purchased;
- the date of payment; and
- the reason for the request.
SMIYL may request additional information where necessary to investigate the request.
Each request will be reviewed based on the service purchased, services already delivered, programme access provided, attendance and communication records, the timing of the request and applicable law.
8. Approved refunds
Where a refund is approved, SMIYL will normally return the funds using the original payment method where reasonably possible.
SMIYL aims to initiate approved refunds promptly. The time required for funds to appear in the customer’s account may also depend on the payment processor, card issuer or financial institution.
Where applicable law specifies a particular refund period, that period will apply.
9. Payment disputes and chargebacks
If you believe a payment has been made incorrectly or you are dissatisfied with a SMIYL service, please contact us first so that we can investigate and attempt to resolve the issue.
SMIYL maintains payment records, attendance records, programme materials, communications and evidence of service delivery and may provide these records to payment processors or financial institutions when responding to payment disputes or chargebacks.
Nothing in this section prevents a customer from exercising any rights available to them under applicable law.
10. Statutory consumer rights
Nothing in this policy is intended to exclude, restrict or override any rights that cannot lawfully be excluded under applicable consumer protection legislation.
Where this policy conflicts with a mandatory provision of applicable law, the applicable law will take precedence.
