Build the future of Cambridge Education with us

SMIYL is building a small, ambitious team with one goal: to help Cambridge A-Level Mathematics students learn better, prepare smarter and achieve results they are proud of.
We started by teaching students directly and building one of the most focused Cambridge 9709 communities online. Now we’re building the team that will take SMIYL to the next level.
If you’re excellent at what you do, take ownership of your work and want the opportunity to help build something from an early stage, we’d love to hear from you.

Why join SMIYL?

Your work will matter.

We’re still a small team.
That means you won’t spend your days working on things nobody sees or waiting for five layers of approval.
Whether you’re developing a YouTube campaign, editing a video, supporting a student or improving our operations, your work will directly influence how SMIYL grows and the experience our students receive.

You’ll have real ownership.

We don’t want people who simply wait for a list of tasks.
We want people who can understand the outcome we’re trying to achieve, take responsibility for their area and find better ways of getting there.
As SMIYL grows, we want the people who helped build it to grow with it.

We’re ambitious.

We’re not trying to build another small tutoring service.
We’re building an education company capable of combining exceptional teaching, world-class educational content and a student experience that sets a new standard for Cambridge A-Level Mathematics.
There is a lot left to build.
That’s the opportunity.

We’re obsessed with getting better.

We expect high standards, but we don’t expect perfection.
We care about learning quickly, responding to feedback, testing new ideas and consistently making the work better than it was before.

Open Positions

We are currently building our 2027 team.
All positions below are remote.

Remote · Content & Growth

We’re looking for someone to take ownership of SMIYL’s content operation.
This is not simply an editing role.
You’ll help determine what SMIYL publishes, why we publish it and how our media channels contribute to the growth of the business.
You’ll work closely with the founder to develop high-potential content ideas, turn those ideas into strong long-form videos, lead our editing team and continuously improve the performance of our media channels.

What you’ll do

  • Develop original content ideas designed to grow SMIYL and its audience
  • Build and manage the content calendar
  • Script, outline and storyboard long-form YouTube videos
  • Help develop titles, thumbnails, hooks and video packaging
  • Manage our long-form and short-form editors
  • Review edits and provide clear creative feedback
  • Ensure content is completed to a high standard and delivered on time
  • Personally edit selected high-priority videos, campaigns and creative projects
  • Study channel analytics and identify what is and isn’t working
  • Help develop launch campaigns for SMIYL programmes
  • Continuously experiment with new formats, concepts and distribution strategies

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Have excellent creative judgment
  • Understand YouTube beyond simply knowing how to edit videos
  • Understand storytelling, hooks, pacing and audience retention
  • Can write or structure compelling long-form content
  • Are a strong video editor yourself
  • Can give other creatives clear feedback
  • Take ownership rather than waiting to be told what to do
  • Think commercially about content and understand that the goal is not simply to generate views
  • Are highly reliable and organised
  • Want the opportunity to build and eventually lead a media department

Previous experience in educational content is useful but not required.

Experience with Cambridge education or the student market is a bonus.

Compensation: Approximately USD $400-$500/month, depending on experience and fit.

Remote · Content
We’re looking for a strong YouTube editor to help us consistently produce high-quality long-form content.
You’ll work closely with our Head of Content to turn raw footage and creative briefs into engaging videos for the SMIYL YouTube channel.
We’re not looking for someone who simply cuts pauses and adds captions.
We want an editor who understands pacing, storytelling, retention and how editing can make an idea significantly more compelling.

What you’ll do

  • Edit long-form YouTube videos
  • Work from scripts, outlines and creative briefs
  • Build strong pacing and visual storytelling
  • Use graphics, screen recordings, music, sound design and other assets where appropriate
  • Collaborate with the Head of Content on revisions
  • Maintain consistent quality across the channel
  • Meet agreed production deadlines
  • Help improve our editing style and production systems over time

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Have a strong long-form editing portfolio
  • Understand YouTube pacing and retention
  • Have excellent attention to detail
  • Can receive feedback without becoming defensive
  • Communicate clearly
  • Work reliably without constant supervision
  • Are interested in becoming better at both editing and storytelling

Experience editing educational or creator-led YouTube channels is a bonus.

Compensation: Approximately USD $200–$300/month, depending on experience, output and fit.

Remote · Content
We’re looking for a short-form editor who can help turn SMIYL’s ideas and long-form content into high-performing Shorts, Reels and TikToks.
You should understand that strong short-form content is more than putting subtitles over a clip.
We want someone who understands hooks, pacing, curiosity, visual movement and why people continue watching.

What you’ll do

  • Edit YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels and TikTok videos
  • Repurpose strong moments from long-form content
  • Work with the Head of Content to develop native short-form concepts
  • Improve hooks and pacing
  • Add captions, graphics and supporting visuals
  • Adapt edits for different platforms where necessary
  • Maintain a consistent publishing pipeline
  • Study performance and learn from what works

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Have a strong short-form portfolio
  • Understand modern short-form editing
  • Can identify compelling moments within longer footage
  • Have a good instinct for hooks and attention
  • Work quickly without sacrificing quality
  • Are reliable with deadlines
  • Are willing to test different formats rather than repeating one editing template

Compensation: Approximately USD $100–$200/month, depending on experience, volume and fit.

Remote · Operations
Great teaching means very little if the student experience around it is chaotic.
We’re looking for someone to make sure the operational side of SMIYL runs smoothly.
You’ll help manage the systems behind our programmes: onboarding students, handling access, following up on payments, maintaining records, solving technical issues and making sure small operational problems are resolved before they become large ones.
You’ll work closely with the founder, tutors and students.

What you’ll do

  • Manage student onboarding
  • Ensure students receive the correct links, resources and platform access
  • Monitor lessons for access or technical issues where necessary
  • Respond to operational student and parent enquiries
  • Respond to emails
  • Follow up on failed or overdue payments
  • Maintain accurate student and payment records
  • Manage programme calendars and scheduling
  • Help organise recordings and learning-platform resources
  • Maintain operational trackers
  • Follow established processes and improve them where possible
  • Solve routine problems independently and escalate important issues when necessary
  • Support programme launches and enrolment periods

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Are extremely organised
  • Communicate professionally and clearly
  • Are comfortable dealing with students and parents
  • Are confident using spreadsheets and online tools
  • Notice details other people miss
  • Follow through reliably
  • Stay calm when several things go wrong at once
  • Enjoy solving practical problems
  • Can distinguish between something you should solve yourself and something that genuinely needs escalation

Experience in customer support, education, programme operations or online businesses is useful but not required.

Compensation: Approximately USD $200–$300/month, depending on experience and responsibilities.

Remote · Academic
We’re building a tutoring team to support students enrolled in SMIYL’s Cambridge International AS & A Level Mathematics programmes.
You’ll be responsible for a small group of students and help us make sure those students understand what they are learning, receive help when they get stuck and do not quietly fall behind.

Papers

We are recruiting tutors for:

  • Pure Mathematics 1 (P1)
  • Pure Mathematics 3 (P3)
  • Probability & Statistics 1 (S1)
  • Probability & Statistics 2 (S2)

The ability to confidently teach multiple papers is highly valued.

What you’ll do

  • Run weekly small-group tutorials
  • Work through selected problems with students
  • Diagnose misconceptions and gaps in understanding
  • Answer academic questions through designated student support channels
  • Track tutorial and lesson attendance
  • Follow up when assigned students disengage
  • Monitor how students are progressing
  • Mark internal assessments
  • Give detailed, actionable feedback
  • Flag students who may need additional intervention
  • Contribute to targeted revision workshops
  • Work closely with the Head Tutor and wider academic team

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Have excellent Cambridge 9709 Mathematics knowledge
  • Can explain mathematics clearly rather than simply produce correct answers
  • Are patient but maintain high standards
  • Communicate reliably
  • Can identify why a student is making a mistake
  • Take responsibility for the students assigned to you
  • Are comfortable receiving feedback on your teaching

Strong Cambridge Mathematics results are highly valued.
Previous tutoring experience is useful, but exceptional candidates without formal tutoring experience are still welcome to apply.

Compensation: Approximately USD $100–$300/month, depending on paper, workload and experience. Performance bonuses and additional paid responsibilities may also be available.

Selected tutors may also be considered for our Head Tutor position.

How we work

Take ownership.

If something belongs to you, own the outcome.
Don’t simply identify a problem and pass it upwards if you can reasonably solve it yourself.

High standards, low ego.

We care deeply about producing excellent work.
Feedback is part of that process.
We expect everyone, to be willing to change their mind when there is a better way of doing something.

Move with urgency.

We’re a small company.
That should make us faster, not less organised.
Communicate early, meet commitments and don’t allow avoidable problems to sit unresolved.

Think from the student backwards.

Our students are the reason the company exists.
A video, payment system, tutorial, email or spreadsheet may feel far removed from the classroom, but ultimately it should contribute to a better company and a better student experience.

Keep improving.

Processes that work today may not be good enough six months from now.
We expect everyone on the team to notice opportunities for improvement and suggest better ways of working.

Our hiring process

We care far more about your ability to do the work than how impressive your CV looks.

1. Apply

Complete the application form for the position you’re interested in.
We’ll ask about your experience, your work and why you think you would be a strong fit for SMIYL.

2. Shortlist

We review applications and select candidates whose experience, work and responses stand out.
Due to application volume, we may only be able to contact shortlisted applicants.

3. Interview

Shortlisted candidates will speak with us so we can learn more about you, how you work and what you’re looking for.
You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions about SMIYL and the role.

4. Practical assessment

For some positions, shortlisted candidates will complete a practical task that reflects the actual work they would do at SMIYL.

5. Final decision

Our strongest candidates may have a final conversation before we make an offer.
If successful, we’ll agree on your start date and begin onboarding.

What we care about

You do not need the perfect CV.
You do need to be very good or clearly capable of becoming very good at what you do.

Across every role, we value people who are:

Reliable.
If you say something will be done, it gets done.

Ambitious.
You want your work to become significantly better over time.

Resourceful.
You try to solve problems before immediately escalating them.

Coachable.
You can receive feedback, think about it objectively and improve.

Thoughtful.
You understand why you’re doing something instead of blindly following instructions.

Good communicators.
You raise problems early and communicate clearly.

Students of their craft.
You actively learn how to become better at what you do.

A note about working at SMIYL

SMIYL is still an early-stage company.
That means you will have significantly more ownership than you might have in a large organisation.
It also means not every process has already been perfected.
We are actively building the systems, standards and team that we believe can turn SMIYL into the strongest Cambridge education brand in the world.
If you want a role where every decision has already been made for you, this is not the right environment.
If the idea of helping build those systems excites you, you will fit in very well here.

Don’t see the right role?

Great people don’t always arrive when we happen to have the perfect vacancy open.
If you believe you could make a meaningful contribution to SMIYL in areas such as:

  • education
  • content
  • design
  • marketing
  • operations
  • technology
  • growth

we’d still like to hear from you.

Tell us what you’re exceptional at and how you believe you could contribute.
